New Shape

Today’s outfit was the result of finding existing pieces in my wardrobe and re-working them into new looks. It’s impossible to wear something new every day (unless you have the wardrobe resembling the likes of the Olsen twins or Princess Kate) thus the discovery of a new way to wear an excising piece can often have me feeling like I have a new addition to my Closet.
I saw this layering technique (where the top peaks below the skirt) in a street style snap while browsing the world wide web and was eager to wear the look. This T-shirt dress would have usually sat in the back of my wardrobe until a “skinny” week, with its shapeless cut. but this leather skirt has brought some much needed shape and edginess to the occasion.  This has also turned a skirt which can sometimes be a little too short for the office into a new mid-week favourite.

P.s I am appreciating a little mixed print at the moment, hence the pairing of the leopard print creepers with this floral ensemble.

Friend Called Friday

It’s Friday again! and as we say hello to the first weekend, for many of us, of the working year, I am so glad we are looking on to a weekend in the sun! Though I think my two hours in the sun already today have already given me a small case of sun stroke.

I myself will be planting myself on the sand with a good book ! and trying to get as much swimming in as possible as a part of my fleeting attempt to get active.

Now to get you in the Summer mood here are some outtakes from a recent beach shoot I styled for with the lovely Olivia from EMG Model Managment at Coogee Beach. Photos by Stephanie Alcaino of Alcaino Creative, Makeup & Hair by Margaret Albia founder of Create Cosmetics.

Paisley Soldier

Had a little impromptu photo shoot today with my good friend, French Poodle Jean Claude, so that I could share today’s outfit with you. We found this great spot to snap some pics above North Bondi Golf course, though we were lucky to not be blown away.

I am a little divided about the end of Sydney’s heat wave, which had me at the beach until 8:30pm Tuesday Night. On one hand I am glad to be able to pull out one of my favourite purchases from last years cooler months, this Zara paisley shirt, on the other nothing makes you still feel like your on Holidays like a swim in the heat of the night.

Also so glad to finally share my NYE white skater skirt purchase with you. I am loving  ”girlyness” to anything I pair with it, a perfect piece to pair with my rather masculine vintage”Solider” hat (as I have been referring to it)

BRING ON 40 DEGREES TOMORROW

P.s Jean Claude felt left out so I have included in one of the shots for your viewing pleasure

Rain On Summer Days

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE
This is my first post for 2013 and I am happy to say that my second new years resolution is

2. BLOG MORE OFTEN

I was planning to do a special post for 2013 but flicking through photos from my Christmas break I just wanted to share these photos taken by my sister in the Whitsunday’s so they don’t just sit on my laptop !

This Christmas in Australia was far from the sun bleached day we had hoped for, with rain trapping Sydney siders inside for their Christmas festivities.
I was lucky enough to escape to the Whitsunday’s for a few days over Christmas and experienced a wet Christmas in Queensland’s humid air which made swimming in the rain a rather refreshing experience. This warm air also meant that walking in the rain was of no concern causing me to pick back up an accessory which I I have shared my love for with you before,  the head scarf.
In air so humid that your hair never seems to dry and you are always “in between swims” anyway, the head scarf has once again proved why it will always have a place in my wardrobe, especially when their is truly no right or way wrong to tie one that I can find.

Pinafore

I woke up this morning to the alarming realisation we are only one day out from the end of the year ! Exactly 26 hours (at the time of this post) until we will be counting away 2012 and welcoming 2013, though if your anything like me it will be at least mid February before you will truly accept that 2013 is upon us.

This time of year is one where we are meant to not only reflect on the year that has passed but also look forward to year we are about to take on and make plans or “resolutions” that will help us to make next year that little bit better than the one just passed.
I have never been one to lay out a list of resolutions so matter-of-factly nor can I think back to any resolutions I have ever really kept as they have mostly been flippant declarations at the stroke of midnight. So I thought this year I would put pen to paper in the form of this blog and share with you at least the 1st of my new years resolutions, the rest I will have to sleep on and get back to you tomorrow with.

NYE RESOLUTION:
1. Save up enough to go to Paris

———————————————————————————————–
I purchased this Pinafore dress (though have been referring to it as my “apron” dress) from Topshop when it’s Sydney store first opened. Though it was truly love at first sight I have since struggled to truly fall in love with an outfit that it was a part of. To be honest it isn’t the most flattering piece, and in retrospect I had been pairing it with equally unflattering T’s.
I make a lot of my shopping choices by simply falling in love with a piece, without truly having any idea what I would wear with it, so when a purchase that has been sitting in your wardrobe finally gets its moment its often like having a new brand new piece with all the endorphins that come with a shopping trip.

These photo’s below are a result of one of these such moments for my now DEAR pinafore dress.
My Kmart crop top purchase a few weeks ago has been a true blessing to my wardrobe. Once again proving that it is often the smallest purchases that can all of a sudden bring new life to your wardrobe, and by pairing the pinafore with a piece that shows some shape beneath it it has returned to the flattering shape it so desired.

In these temperatures I am loving the seamlessly backless feel that the pinafore and crop top combo create with the midi length completing the proportions of the outfit.

Beach Threads: Overall’s

I absolutely love this time of the year. When my only commitment is to get a good tan, my main hair product is salt water and I can comfortably and guiltlessly say I that will leave a chore until “next year.”
This summer’s must have piece for me, in terms of beach wear, has to be this pair of bright red vintage overalls. When enduring a sticky drive/ walk/ bike ride to my closest water source there is nothing worse than clingy clothes that leave you with visible sweat patches within minutes of leaving the house. Nor am I a fan of those, hilarious as they are, bikini marks that still wet swimwear leaves on tight fitting clothes on that trip back from the beach.
Enter these overalls, their uber comfy loose fit has made them an instant wardrobe favourite, allowing me to still feel the coolness of walking around in my bikini between home and beach without having to endure actually walking around shops & cafes predominantly nude.

I have been seeing a lot of overall styles pooping up this summer so if you want to get your own pair I am loving styles by; Story By Tang, Nasty Gal, Sportsgirl, & The Cassette Society

I am also really excited to say that these photos below are the first to be taken in my new little home studio which will hopefully allow me to bring you more regular outfit posts.
